SARASOTA INJURY ATTORNEY CALLS FOR ACTION ON CELL PHONE USE AND DISTRACTED DRIVING

(LegalLaw247.comE.COM, February 23, 2012 ) Personal injury attorney Maria Gerber is calling on local and state officials to take action to curb cell phone use and distracted driving, which causes thousands of deaths each year. Florida is currently one of only 15 states with no with no ban on texting while driving, a practice that killed over 16,000 people in six years. Gerber demands that lawmakers and community members vow to reduce these fatalities and make our roads safer.

A Nationwide Insurance survey showed that 8 in 10 drivers support some sort of restriction on phone usage while driving, with 80 percent supporting a ban on text messaging while driving. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recommends that all states ban any cell phone activity while driving, including texting, emailing or talking, even on hands-free devices. Studies show that cell phone use of any kind slows down a drivers reaction time significantly, and can impair their reaction time even more than drunk driving.

Distractions while driving are plentiful; therefore, one has to do all they can to reduce or eliminate all distractions possible, said Gerber, who founded the Gerber Law Group. We cannot afford distracted drivers. iPhones, touchpads, DVDs, CDs and the like are all at our fingertips while in the driver's seat of an automobile. It can be a struggle to resist the temptation that these technological inventions pose. Even a navigational system can divert a driver's attention from the roadway and end in tragedy.

The Gerber Law Group is a dedicated personal injury law firm that advocates and seeks justice for victims injured in accidents. Herself a victim of personal injury, Maria Gerber understands the trauma and distress caused by accidents. The Gerber Law Group was founded in 2001 and is dedicated to ensuring that victims receive fair treatment and obtain the help they need.

Floridas state senate has submitted two bills this session to ban texting while driving and at least six bills this year deal with distracted driving in some fashion. Gerber calls on legislators and local communities to recognize the dangers of distracted driving. Just like your parents always told you, both hands on the wheel at ten and two, Gerber added. Some axioms, although not in step with today's generation or technical age, remain sage truisms.
