Pradaxa was approved in 2010 and aimed to replace decades-old blood thinner Coumadin. Unlike Coumadin, the blood thinning effects of which can be reversed with Vitamin K, Pradaxa has no antidote. Therefore, if a user is seriously injured in a car accident or suffers a cerebral hemorrhage, it may be difficult to stop the bleeding. One Pradaxa lawsuit has reportedly alleged that Boehringer Ingelheim created a dangerous drug which is no safer than older blood thinners and lacks an antidote to reverse its anticlotting effects.
