According to a Phoenix police report, six children under the age of 16 were being driven to school by a seventh sibling when their minivan collided with a sedan on Southern Avenue, ejecting three of the children and injuring the driver of the sedan. Witnesses alerted 911 and when police arrived on the scene, three children’s bodies were found in the bushes surrounding the accident scene. Police suspect that the 16-year-old driver, who did not have a license, was impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
Though the names of the deceased children have not been released, police did release their ages; 5, 8 and 11-years-old. The three other children were hospitalized at the time of the accident, and a 4-year-old girl remains in critical condition. At the time of the report no further information was available, but authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash and await results of the driver’s blood tests.
