Seat Belt Laws Being Pushed for Nebraska School Busses Reports Inkelaar Law

(LegalLaw247.com, August 23, 2013 ) A mother who lost her son after a Nebraska school bus went off a bridge and fell 50 feet onto its side is pushing for seat belts to be required on all Nebraska school buses. Along with her son, three other children were killed in this tragic incident on October 13, 2001.

The National Transportation Safety Board has stated that nearly 20 percent of the nation’s 500,000 school buses are equipped with seat belts. These busses are designed with compartmentalization which results in the children hitting the seat in-front of them during an accident.

Many parents believe that this is not enough to protect their children during an accident and believe that all busses should be required to have seatbelts. The Lincoln Public Schools Director of Transportation stated that nearly 60 percent of their school buses do have seatbelts and children riding these buses are required to wear the seatbelts.

Further statistics demonstrate that a total of 1,368 people have died in school transportation related crashes since 2001 throughout the United States. By viewing these statistics, it is no wonder why parents are pushing for stricter seatbelt laws.

The Nebraska truck accident attorneys at Inkelaar Law have great sympathy for the parents of children injured in school bus accidents and extend a helping hand to those in need.
