Testing of MDMA as PTSD Treatment OK’d, Cincinnati Drug Rehab Comments

(LegalLaw247.com, December 03, 2016 ) Cincinnati, OH -- The New York Times reports that clinical testing for MDMA as a treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder has officially been approved by the FDA. Testing, which is in it's third phase, began in small trials in 2013 and includes patients for which traditional medications and therapies have not been effective. Because of promising results in the smaller scale testing, the FDA has approved a large scale clinical trial. Should the testing provide positive results, MDMA could be medically prescribed as a treatment for PTSD.

Given the dangers involved with use and abuse of MDMA, rehab facilities like Cincinnati Drug Rehab are concerned about the unforeseen consequences of making the drug readily available via prescription. Facilities providing drug rehab in Cincinnati urge the FDA to take the potential impact this could have on the substance abuse crisis.

A representative of Cincinnati Drug Rehab comments,
"While we support medical exploration that may benefit those suffering from PTSD and other mental health disorders, we must urge caution in moving forward with this study. MDMA is a powerfully addictive drug that can complicate mental health disorders; while it may prove beneficial in the proper doses to certain patients, we must be extremely careful. We cannot afford the current prescription pill abuse epidemic to be compounded by a resurgence of MDMA abuse."
