The Blind Stokers Club matches sighted cyclists with blind ones to share the joys of cycling with those who are unable to ride on their own. The teams ride on tandem bikes, with the blind cyclist riding on the back seat. Many of the club members spend the entire year training for this 200-mile ride. The money the teams and sponsors raise will go to the club as well as the San Diego Center for the Blind. The tandems start and end the ride from the beautiful Torrey Pines in La Jolla. Participants enjoy two nights’ stay at the University of California Irvine. The ride is equipped with a full navigation package, SAG support as well as midway checkpoints. This is the third consecutive year that Dudek will be riding with his same partner.
“It is very inspiring to cycle with this large group of blind athletes who are raising money for the San Diego Center for the Blind,” Dudek said. “Many of the blind ‘stokers’ train all year for this 200 mile, 3-day event.”
