Meningitis Outbreak in Florida Warns Gordon & Doner

(LegalLaw247.com, October 12, 2012 ) WEST PALM BEACH, FL – Recent reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have warned of a current multistate investigation in regard to an outbreak of fungal meningitis. According to the most recent information released, patients who have received an epidural steroid injection in the past 5 months may be at risk for fungal meningitis. The New England Compounding Center in in Framingham, Mass. is responsible for the contamination of epidural steroids sent out to healthcare facilities across the nation. Currently, Florida is one of 11 states who have been affected by this fungal meningitis outbreak. As of today, 11 deaths in 170 cases had been recorded.

As the investigation continues, patients who have received an epidural steroid injection since May 21, 2012 must contact a physician immediately. Upon release of this information, the CDC has advised all clinicians to contact their patients by phone or in person to relay the new about the possible presence of fungal meningitis.
