One of the cases involves a woman in Southern California who was waiting at a red light on a clear Tuesday afternoon. The light changed from red to green; she proceeded to turn left, only to be T-Boned by a drunk driver who ran the red light. The impact from the collision flipped her large vehicle onto its roof, and she had to be extracted by emergency responders. The other victim was in a collision near the victim's home on a Sunday afternoon.
"In both these cases, the drunk driver inflicted serious injuries on others, which will involve many months of recovery," said Dudek. "It only takes one instance of drinking and driving to claim a life or cause serious injuries. Always have a designated driver; it is never worth the risk."
Dudek has been involved with Mothers Against Drunk Driving
(MADD) for years. According to MADD, at any given time there are approximately 2 million repeat drunk drivers on the road. MADD's work with volunteers and law enforcement has saved over 300,000 lives to date. MADD also offers support for drunk driving accident victims and their families.
