(LegalLaw247.com, August 17, 2012 ) San Dimas, CA -- Crosby Small Claims Service is offering something that not many can—the opportunity for felons to get a second chance at a better life. Many felons and other criminals report that they stay in the cycle of crime throughout their lives, often because their criminal background prevents them from seeking legitimate employment or making positive changes in their lives. Crosby Small Claims Service offers a service, Expunge a Felony, which allows felons to initiate a civil action asking the court to expunge their records.

Recently, a story in the Middletown Press drew attention to this issue (http://middletownpress.com/articles/2012/07/30/news/doc5014b2a0efdf6809247696.txt?viewmode=) by highlighting the story of Wayne Washington, who hopes to become a college professor, despite his criminal background.

“We feel that if a person is haunted by their criminal background and mistakes they may have made in the past, they’re never going to be able to turn their life around,” said Robert Crosby, owner of Crosby Small Claims Service. “Expungement is a form of redemption for these felons, and it’s one of the best ways we’ve seen to prevent felons and people with blemishes on their record from reentering the world of crime. This is a service that’s not only beneficial for the felon, but also for society, because by giving them a fresh start, expungement allows them to become employed, instead of being in a cycle of crime for the rest of their lives.”

California’s expungement law permits someone convicted of a crime to file a Petition for Dismissal with the court to re-open the case, set aside the plea, and dismiss the case. In order for one to qualify for expungement, the petitioner must have completed probation, paid all fines and restitution, and not currently be charged with a crime. If the requirements are met for eligibility, a court may grant the petition if it finds that it would be in the interest of justice to do so. A successful expungement will not erase the criminal record, but rather the finding of guilt will be changed to a dismissal. The petitioner then can honestly and legally answer to a question about their criminal history, with some exceptions, that they have not been convicted of that crime.

“America is the land of the second chance - and when the gates of the prison open, the path ahead should lead to a better life,” said former president, George W. Bush.

Crosby Small Claims Service offers misdemeanor expungement services for as low as $249 and former criminals can get their felony expunged for $299. Click here for more details about the services they offer.

“We invite you to check us out,” said Crosby. “We’re not only going to offer a great price for our services, but we also understand the ins and outs of the California legal service, and we know what it takes to help you make these changes in your criminal background, that can mean a whole new life, regardless of past mistakes.”
