Plunkett argued that the process was long and bureaucratic, and claimed the process could have been a lot easier and shorter. He is demanding judicial oversight of the process and an apology by authorities for mistreating his minor clients.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Mr. Plunkett said, “these cases made it harder for the Australian government to voice concerns about its citizens caught up in prisons in Bali, especially for people being charged with crimes such as drug smuggling.”
Federal authorities are also under fire with Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, who claims they deliberately ignored documents that proved the persons being charged with smuggling were minors. She is calling for laws to be made to protect the rights of minors in these cases.
