Prior to the collision, a 17 year-old student from Beach High School was driving in the car with her mother when she steered onto the west side of Hopkins Street, heading toward a tree. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the teenager hit Washington and Quartermen and both children were taken to Memorial University Medical Center to treat their injuries.
Washington has suffered bumps and bruises, in addition to a knee injury which may require surgery. The 8 year-old has also suffered mental trauma, referring to recent nightmares about the motor vehicle accident as well as a newfound fear of cars.
