After a day spent enjoying the Red Sox game at Fenway Park, the officers decided to join the race’s spectators, unaware they would become witness to a heinous crime. As the explosions occurred, victims approached the officers, some aflame and profusely bleeding. The carnage resulted in three wrongful deaths, and nearly 200 people suffered personal injury.
“It was unbelievable. Probably the most horrific thing that I’ve seen that close,” said Meninno. The pair remembers assisting approximately 10 people and denies the label of “heroes” many are bestowing. “We truly didn’t do anything special… just administered first aid to people who needed help,” Mennino says. Moorehead agreed, saying “most people who are trained to do what we do would have done exactly what we did.”
The officers have both received personal phone calls from Governor Malloy to thank them for their action.
