The campaign was launched by local Dorking resident Steve Hooker who is dedicated to further improving the image of Dorking Surrey.
"This is a great opportunity for London / National Heritage to recognise the importance of Dorking to the country. Historically it has done its bit during all the wars and was recently named in the "The Times Best Towns List". Last year it feature prominently in the Olympic Cycling events and will be a centre again this year. It is unfortunate, but understandable that financial and other resources are thrown at the large cities and deprived inner areas, however the country must not forget the good that market towns around the country do for the economy and cultural life of the country."

In the worst case it is a small consolation that Nelson on his column is looking down on the bird (if deemed to be foreign).
So the campaign will take the war to the French, Germans, National Heritage or Westminster council (who are seeking views for their planning approval).
