Bulger Defense Says FBI Ignored Criminal Activity

(LegalLaw247.com, July 31, 2013 ) Denver, CO -- Stephen “The Rifleman” Flemmi has been enduring a relentless a cross-examination by “Whitey” Bulger’s lawyer in the gangster’s racketeering trial who claims that he and Bulger were secret FBI informants together for 15 years while they ran a murderous Irish mob gang named the Winter Hill Gang.

On Wednesday, he showed the court diagrams that he drew for the FBI, detailing places where the rival Mafia had gathered. Flemmi, 79, had also been locked up after pleading guilty to committing 10 murders.

The defense also got Flemmi to admit that he’s lied in court previously, to which Flemmi said that if he hadn’t, he would have exposed a corrupt relationship with the FBI that “wouldn’t have helped the defense”. However, he insisted Wednesday that he was telling the truth.

Hank Brennan, a defense attorney for Bulger, suggested that Flemmi has received special treatment from law enforcement over the years, including being dropped from horse-race-fixing scheme indictment that spanned five states.

On Tuesday, Flemmi testified that Bulger strangled two young women and added a new accusation to the list of Bulger’s problems: he’s a pedophile. Flemmi claims Bulger had sex with a 16-year-old girl he took to Mexico with him and had sex with other children on several different other occasions.

Bulger, 83, is also accused of participating in 19 killings during the 1970s and 80s while leading the Winter Hill Gang. He was one of America’s Most Wanted until he was captured in California two years ago.
