Heroin Laced with Fentanyl Causes New Epidemic in Florida, Miami Drug Rehab Comments

(LegalLaw247.com, May 20, 2016 ) Miami, FL -- As reported by ABC Local 10, South Florida is seeing an explosion of lethal heroin overdoses caused by the adulteration of heroin with the powerful painkiller, Fentanyl. Used medically as an anesthetic, Fentanyl is one hundred times stronger than Morphine; heroin and Fentanyl combined can be lethal in even the smallest doses. In 2015, Fentanyl contributed to nearly 50 percent more deaths than in 2014, a fact which was co-current with a 363 percent raise in heroin deaths.

Facilities providing heroin rehab in Miami know all too readily the lethal consequences of Fentanyl-laced heroin. One such rehab center, Miami Drug Rehab, urges law enforcement and medical authorities to team together in order to protect our communities. In instances of prescription drug abuse, doctors and medical professionals are our first line of defense.

A representative of Miami Drug Rehab comments:

"Illicit drugs are dangerous in and of themselves, but when they are adulterated by other, more powerful substances, things can quickly become lethal. Legislation and stricter guidelines for prescribing painkillers can cut those risks drastically. By holding our doctors accountable and providing education and rehabilitation services to the public, we can reverse the damage caused to our communities by adulterated drugs."
